Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said his team will not give up in the Premier League title race, despite a nine-point gap to leaders Arsenal.
City drew 1-1 with West Ham United, a result that left Guardiola’s team further off the top of the table in the 2025/26 season.
After the match, the Spanish coach was asked if Manchester City should give up the title race, but he made it clear that his team will continue to fight until the end.
“The title race? We will continue,” declared Guardiola.
“We have a team with an extraordinary spirit and we fought hard after the great effort in Madrid. We are an extraordinary team. We played very well and we will continue like this until the end,” he added.
Guardiola also stressed that his team still has one less game to play and that everything remains open until the end of the season.
“We have one less game, one home game, anything can happen. We have to try until the end. When it’s not possible, we will congratulate the champion, but we have to try,” he said.
Manchester City have one less game in hand than Arsenal, but even if they win that, the gap will be reduced to six points.
On the other hand, if Arsenal manage to collect 16 more points in the remaining matches of the season, the Gunners would secure the Premier League title for the 2025/26 season, regardless of Manchester City’s results.
