Real Madrid right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has called Federico Valverde the most underrated player in football after his incredible hat-trick against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League last-16.
Valverde was coming off a late winner against Celta Vigo in La Liga last Friday, keeping Real Madrid just four points behind Barcelona in the title race.
After long spells at right-back over the past two seasons, Valverde returned to the right-midfield position, where he has had the most success in recent years.
His good performances, which continued with a brilliant performance against City, have earned Valverde high praise from his teammate Alexander-Arnold, who described the Uruguayan as “the most underrated player on the planet.”
“I praised him a few weeks ago, but again, I’ve run out of words to describe him. He’s the most underrated footballer on the planet, and has been for years, but even before I came here, I always admired his game, because there’s no flaw in him,” Alexander-Arnold initially said.
“There’s nothing he can’t do, his energy is absolutely incredible. He never complains, he gets on with the game, he pushes himself to the limit game after game and it’s a great trait to have.”
“Whether people agree or not, he is undoubtedly at the highest level of midfielders on the planet and has been for years,” the English defender concluded.
