Played Too Well – Barca Send Bid For Newcastle Star

Barcelona can now start drawing up serious targets for the summer, after Joan Laporta has been re-elected as president.

A central defender and a striker are at the top of the priority list, but there could also be another reinforcement in the defensive department.

Last week it was reported that Barcelona will consider summer offers for Alejandro Balde, who has struggled to maintain continuity since Hansi Flick’s arrival as coach.

If he leaves, a replacement will be needed, and while Joao Cancelo would be an obvious choice, the club may be looking for a younger profile.

One option being considered is Lewis Hall. According to CaughtOffside , Barcelona have added the Newcastle defender to their summer transfer list after impressing with his performance in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at St James’ Park last week.

Hall has performed at a high level since joining Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, and could now be on the verge of a big-money move.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are also said to be interested in signing him, which would make the situation significantly more difficult for Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see how Barcelona manage the situation at left-back. Balde has been an undisputed starter for several seasons, but has failed to regain his form since Flick’s arrival, which has raised concerns among the club’s management.

Meanwhile, Cancelo has excelled in recent weeks, but he is only on loan from Al Hilal and his salary could be an issue if a permanent deal is sought.
