There are growing reports that Rafael Leao’s recent outburst has so irritated Milan’s management that they are willing to listen to suitable offers to sell him.
He was expected to become a key figure for the club’s future after signing a new contract, which made him the highest-paid player in the squad.
The idea was for him to develop into a leader and finally reach maturity at San Siro, but with him turning 27 in June and showing little sign of changing his negative habits, the club’s patience is running out.
Leao was slow to come off the bench in the loss to Lazio, so much so that Mike Maignan was forced to run from the goal towards the touchline to physically push him off the field.
He then refused coach Max Allegri’s attempt to give him a comforting hug, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he continued to vent his anger at teammate Christian Pulisic in the dressing room after the match.
Multiple sources, including MilanNews , Tuttomercatoweb and Calciomercato , suggest that Milan are tired of waiting for Leao to mature, now acknowledging that this is part of his personality and not simply a lack of experience or youth.
Given this, there are no plans to extend the contract that currently expires in June 2028.
Even, unlike previous seasons, Milan is willing to listen to concrete offers to sell Leao during the summer, in the hope that English clubs will intervene.
He has previously been linked with clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
His balance is 80 goals and 64 assists in 284 official matches for Milan, while the asking price is expected to be around 80-90 million euros.
