Bayern Munich have secured qualification for the quarterfinals of the Champions League after defeating Atalanta in two legs, continuing their journey to the elite of European football with an aggregate score of 10-2.
After the match, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance.
“I’m proud of the boys, their play, their goals and their energy on the pitch. We couldn’t secure the lead in the first half, so we had to work hard. Overall, it was a positive day for the club,” he declared.
Kompany stressed that his focus was entirely on facing Atalanta and not on the next opponent.
“I didn’t think about the next opponent. I only thought about Atalanta and going through to the next round. Now we know we will face Real Madrid and these will be fantastic matches for the club, the players and the fans around the world,” he said.
The Belgian coach avoided naming a favorite for this big clash.
“Who is the favourite? I don’t know. I don’t want to discuss that now. Both teams are at a very high level. Real Madrid are the most successful club in the history of the Champions League, so it will be a big challenge for us. We want to win,” Kompany stressed.
He added that the clash between the two European giants promises a great spectacle.
“Very important things are happening at both clubs. The history and talent on the pitch are extraordinary. We expect great matches and I hope that the neutral fans will enjoy them too. In the end, our goal is to win and go through,” he concluded.
In the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Bayern Munich will face Real Madrid in one of the strongest duels of this season.
