Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has been found guilty of non-aggravated assault by a court in Greece and given a 15-month suspended prison sentence.
The decision is related to an incident that occurred during the footballer’s family vacation on the island of Mykonos in 2020.
The court hearing took place on the island of Syros, while Maguire was not present, as he is preparing with the team for the next league match against Newcastle United, scheduled for Wednesday evening.
According to the Daily Mail , the prosecution alleged that Maguire had pushed a police officer who was trying to handcuff him, causing injuries to his leg and back.
The same source adds that the footballer is also suspected of offering bribes to police officers, an accusation that the Red Devils defender has previously described as “ridiculous”.
Also, according to the prosecution, another police officer was punched by one of the defendants during the incident.
Maguire is expected to appeal the decision to the highest judicial authorities.
