Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed the dismissal of manager Thomas Frank, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure following a disappointing run of results.
Frank had insisted he was “1000%” the right man to lead Spurs forward after Tuesday’s 2–1 defeat to Newcastle United, expressing confidence that he would remain in charge. However, the club moved swiftly, announcing his departure shortly afterwards.
In a statement, Tottenham said:
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”
Spurs currently sit 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone with 12 matches remaining. Their next fixture is a high-stakes North London derby at home to Arsenal.
Fan Frustration Reaches Boiling Point
Tuesday’s defeat appeared to be the tipping point. Boos echoed around the stadium as supporters voiced their frustration, with Tottenham having won just seven of 26 Premier League matches under Frank.
After the game, the Danish coach acknowledged the unrest:
“I understand the fans’ frustration. We are in a position we don’t want to be in and we are working very hard day and night to change.”
Frank pointed to a broader pattern of struggles, particularly balancing domestic and European commitments, as well as a mounting injury list.
“It’s fair to say we have struggled to manage Europe and the Premier League. That’s something we need to learn to handle better, physically and mentally.”
He also cited injuries and suspensions as contributing factors but admitted the pressure surrounding the club had intensified.
Who Could Replace Frank?
Tottenham’s decision comes at a time when several high-profile managers are available.
Roberto De Zerbi, who reportedly turned down Spurs last summer, has just left Marseille and is now back on the market. The Italian is also understood to be of interest to Manchester United.
Meanwhile, some supporters are calling for a return of Mauricio Pochettino. However, the Argentine is currently under contract with the U.S. men’s national team until the end of the World Cup cycle, meaning any potential reunion would likely have to wait.
With Spurs hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone, the board now face a crucial decision as they attempt to stabilise the season.
