Ex Arsenal Player Charged With Two Additional Counts of Rape Ahead of Trial

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two further counts of rape, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has confirmed. The 32-year-old, who now plays for Villarreal in Spain, is due to stand trial in November after previously denying multiple allegations.

Partey left Arsenal in the summer of 2025 at the end of his contract and joined Villarreal as a free agent. He has denied all accusations made against him.

Crown Prosecution Service Statement

The CPS announced that it has authorised two new counts of rape following a separate investigation by the Metropolitan Police. According to the official statement, the additional charges relate to alleged non-recent offences said to have occurred in 2020 and involve a different complainant. The allegations were first reported in August 2025.

Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 13. Previously, at Southwark Crown Court in September 2025, he pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, during his time as an Arsenal player.

Bail Conditions and Upcoming Trial

The midfielder was initially charged shortly after his Arsenal contract expired. He remains on bail and is set to face trial regarding the original allegations on November 2, 2026.

Under the terms of his bail, Partey is prohibited from contacting any of the complainants and must inform police of any international travel at least 24 hours in advance. However, the conditions do not prevent him from continuing his professional football career.

Club and International Situation

Partey has continued playing for Villarreal during the 2025-26 season, although his performances have drawn scrutiny. Villarreal manager Marcelino García Toral has previously suggested that the midfielder has yet to rediscover the level he showed earlier in his career.

Internationally, Partey remains part of Ghana’s national team setup. With 56 caps to his name, he is expected to feature at the 2026 World Cup, where Ghana are scheduled to face England in Boston on June 23.

The case remains ongoing, with court proceedings set to determine the outcome of the charges.
