Cesc Fabregas Criticizes Alvaro Morata After Shock Home Defeat

Head coach Cesc Fabregas did not hold back in his criticism following Como 1907’s surprising 2-1 home defeat to Fiorentina, who had been in the relegation zone before kickoff.

Goals from Nicolo Fagioli and Moise Kean secured victory for Fiorentina at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, despite an own goal from Fabiano Parisi in the second half.

“The Second Half Was Not Football”

Speaking to DAZN after the match, Fabregas expressed deep frustration with his team’s attitude and lack of energy.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t help the boys understand the importance of this match. I shared my experience as a footballer during the week, maybe even too much, but it wasn’t enough. We are a young team.”

“In the second half, it wasn’t a football match. Putting that aside, the game must be won with the right motivation and energy. I feel bad as a coach because today I couldn’t transmit that to the players.”

He added that the team must improve its attacking mentality if it wants to impose its style of play.

“We made mistakes in our attitude. We must show more desire and be better in attack if we want to play our football.”

Harsh Words for Morata

Fabregas was even more direct when discussing the late dismissal of Alvaro Morata, who received two quick yellow cards following clashes with Rolando Mandragora and Marin Pongracic.

“Provocation is part of football. Those who cannot live with that should play another sport.”

“I expect much more from an experienced player like him. We cannot find excuses and we cannot allow what others do on the pitch to affect us.”

Fabregas concluded by noting that the tight schedule may help the team quickly move on, with upcoming matches at San Siro and against Torino offering immediate opportunities to respond.
