Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has praised Declan Rice, describing the English midfielder as one of the best in the world in his role.
Rice was crucial in Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their Champions League tie, helping the Londoners secure qualification for the quarter-finals.
“He’s getting better and better. I think he’s one of the best in the world. He’s become one of the best in the world… I’d love for us (Liverpool) to sign him,” Gerrard told TNT Sports.
The former England midfielder also praised the role that West Ham and manager David Moyes have played in Rice’s development, highlighting his further growth under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and with the England national team.
“Fantastic training from him and now he is at the highest level to become one of the best in the world in that position,” he added.
Steve McManaman also expressed the same opinion, describing Rice as the best in his role in Europe.
“He is a different player from the others, very effective. Last year he was great and this season he has improved even more,” he said.
Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal from West Ham for around £100m in 2023, has scored five goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions this season.
The 27-year-old was a key figure in West Ham’s triumph in the Conference League and now aims to win trophies with Arsenal, starting with the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
