Trent Alexander-Arnold’s dream move to the ‘Santiago Bernabeu’ is being noticed by the impartial attention of the Spanish media.

Although Real Madrid secured an important 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo at the ‘Estadio de Balaidos’, the former Liverpool hero found himself at the centre of criticism in the local media after a defensive error.

The consequences of this mistake were immediate, with Spanish newspaper Marca leading the charge with a scathing analysis of the right-back’s performance.

The criticism was direct, suggesting that the 27-year-old looked completely out of sorts during the crucial defensive phase that led to Celta’s goal.

“A long ball over Trent was enough for Williot to expose the least defensively-minded defender in La Liga,” the newspaper wrote in its match report.

“Don’t be surprised by Alexander-Arnold. He’s always been like that. Klopp said it himself shortly after leaving Liverpool: ‘I just didn’t teach him how to defend.’ Anyone who follows Liverpool regularly knows that Trent isn’t exactly a defender; his strength is getting forward and distributing the ball with his excellent passing.”

“But the defense? Forget it, as was shown once again with Celta’s first goal. The only question is whether he doesn’t know how to defend or simply doesn’t want to.”

“So, if you’re a Real Madrid fan, don’t get mad at the English defender if you don’t like his defensive performances. Instead, get mad at whoever signed him,” concluded the Marca report
