Victor Osimhen has revealed that he would prefer Galatasaray to avoid Liverpool in the upcoming Champions League round of 16 draw .
The Nigerian forward spoke to CBS Sports after helping his team eliminate Juventus, securing a place in the next round of Europe’s elite competition.
“I want to be honest with you, the meeting with Liverpool now will be like a kind of revenge,” Osimhen declared.
“Whoever we meet now… I wouldn’t say too much, but I would like to leave Liverpool. But if they come, yes, we will dig it, although it won’t be easy.”
He emphasized that at this stage of the competition there are no easy opponents.
“This is the Champions League, no team is easy. We can see how Bodø/Glimt are doing really well in this tournament. If you want to win, you have to play against big opponents and make a statement for yourself.”
Osimhen also recalled the previous encounter with Liverpool, emphasizing that a potential duel at Anfield would be special.
“We have met Liverpool, but we have not played at Anfield. If we meet them, it will be a great match. I think we are capable of meeting this task. Of course it will not be easy, but we have a fight within us,” said Osimhen.
In the end, he also explained the reason why he did not celebrate the goal scored at the “Allianz Stadium” against Juventus.
“Why didn’t I celebrate? There was no need to celebrate. I think it’s important to respect a man I love and who has had an important role in my career – I’m obviously talking about Luciano Spalletti.”
“We also played badly, even with one more player, so there was no reason to celebrate. I saw all those people applauding Juventus and I respect that. However, I am very happy with the victory and qualifying for the next round,” said the Nigerian striker.
