While Luis Diaz is tearing up the Bundesliga with 19 goals and 15 assists this season, he is facing a much tougher battle in the classroom.
According to a report from BILD on February 23, 2026, the Colombian star’s contract at Bayern Munich includes a strict “language clause” that could cost him up to €50,000 if he fails to learn German.
The “German Class” Mandate
Bayern Munich is famous for its high standards regarding cultural integration, and they’ve made it a legal requirement for the former Liverpool winger.
-
The Obligation: Diaz is contractually required to attend two to three German lessons per week.
-
The Penalties: Failure to show measurable progress in his semi-annual evaluations can lead to sliding fines, starting at €5,000 and reaching €50,000 for repeated non-compliance.
-
The Struggle: In a recent interview with Sky Deportes, Diaz admitted: “The hardest thing was, and still is, the language. I’m trying to repay the club’s trust through my performances on the field.”

Dressing Room Support
Since Diaz primarily speaks Spanish and limited English, communication has been a hurdle. However, captain Joshua Kimmich has stepped up as a bridge for the new signing.
“We have a few guys who speak a bit of Spanish, and his English is okay. We’re managing as a team,” Kimmich noted, highlighting their growing friendship.
Focus on Der Klassiker
Despite the off-field pressure, Diaz is currently Vincent Kompany’s most clinical weapon. His form is vital as Bayern looks to extend their eight-point lead at the top of the table. All eyes are now on the massive Der Klassiker showdown against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, scheduled for next Saturday, February 28, 2026.
