Real Madrid have suffered a major blow this week, as it has been confirmed that Kylian Mbappe will miss the game due to knee problems.
The 27-year-old superstar had been playing with a serious left knee injury for several weeks. The French forward had managed the pain by pushing himself to his physical limits, but this week he reached the point where he could no longer continue, just before the match against Benfica.
After missing that match, it was reported that Mbappe will also be out for the upcoming La Liga matches against Getafe and Celta Vigo, with the hope of being ready for the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
According to journalist Javi Herraez from Cadena SER, Mbappe has already started the recovery process with a clear objective, to return as soon as possible to help Real Madrid at a crucial stage of the season.
It is reported that the France captain is expected to be absent for about three weeks, while his return is targeted for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Manchester City.
This means that Mbappe will miss the matches against Getafe, Celta Vigo, the first leg against Manchester City and the match against Elche.
Currently, March 17th is marked as a priority on Real Madrid’s calendar, as if everything goes according to plan, Mbappé could return for the decisive match against Manchester City.
The 27-year-old has been Real Madrid’s best player this season and the team’s top scorer, with 38 goals in 33 matches, as well as six assists, statistics that make his absence even more significant for “Los Blancos”.
