Among the players who were sent off was the famous Brazilian striker Hulk, who at one point punched an opposing player in the head from behind.
“It’s sad, I’ve never seen such violence in any football match. We can’t set this example because it will have consequences all over the world,” Hulk said.
With 23 red cards, Brazil’s record from 1954 was broken, when 22 red cards were shown in the match between the Portuguese and Botafogo.
