Barcelona is drawing up a plan for the future of the offensive department this summer, where Robert Lewandowski remains an important part.
Although the Polish striker was expected to leave at the end of his contract, recent developments indicate that the club could offer him a new deal, with the final decision expected to be made in the final months of the season.
Lewandowski, who turns 38 in August, is having one of his least convincing seasons with the Catalans.
Before the brace against Newcastle United, he had scored just two goals in 10 games.
There is no shortage of interest in him, with offers from MLS, Saudi Arabia and Serie A, but there is still no concrete proposal from Barcelona.
President Joan Laporta has publicly spoken out in favor of renewing with Lewandowski, leaving the final decision to sporting director Deco.
According to reports, the club intends to offer him a new contract with a lower salary, seeing him in a role similar to that of Cristhian Stuani at Girona, a “super-substitute” who steps in at crucial moments.
Stuani has shown high efficiency in this role, with 44 goal contributions in just 4,192 minutes over the last three and a half years.
At 39, he continues to be decisive, scoring four goals in just 291 minutes this season, a model that Barcelona aims to apply with Lewandowski.
Meanwhile, this strategy casts doubt on Ferran Torres’ future.
With interest in Julian Alvarez and Lewandowski’s possible stay, the space for Torres could narrow.
Although he has rejected offers to leave and has shown that he can be decisive, the current situation does not seem in his favor.
